Education I received a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1970 from Mount St. Joseph College in Cincinnati, Ohio, and earned a Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from Arizona State University in 1978. In 1991 I graduated from Arizona State University's doctoral program with a degree in Psychology. In 2005 I expanded upon my Master’s in Nursing and became a board certified Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Experience In 1970 I entered the Peace Corps and taught nursing in Ethiopia. I then traveled extensively in eastern Africa, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Japan. After returning home, I worked at University Hospital in Boston for a year before moving to Phoenix where I worked as a psychiatric nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital. After completion of my Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing I worked at the Carl Hayden Veterans Administration Medical Center in Phoenix with veterans who had various conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse and post-traumatic stress. I was involved in the design and implementation of a post-traumatic stress program and worked in the program with combat veterans and their families from 1982-87. I also worked in private practice treating primarily depression, substance abuse, relationship problems and trauma. After completion of my doctoral coursework in Psychology, I did my dissertation on self-esteem issues in adolescents of ethnic and racial minority groups then opened a private practice in 1992. I served as President of Arizona Group Psychotherapy Society from 1995-96. I am also a member of Arizona Psychological Association and Amercian Psychological Association. |
